Glass Cabinets


An image of Monticello is featured on the reverse of the 5 cent coin of the United States of America. The floor of the entry room of Monticello is painted green since Jefferson wanted it to feel as if he were still in the outdoors. The Museum was founded in 1869. Its first home was the Arsenal building in Central Park. The Hayden Planetarium, connected to the museum, is now part of the Rose Center for Earth and Space.
