Broadcasting House

Broadcasting House is the headquarters of the BBC in London, England. Situated in Portland Place, it is home to Radio 2, 3, 4, 6 Music and BBC 7. Architect G Val Meyer designed the building, which was officially opened on May 14, 1932 and is now Grade II* listed.

On the front of the building are statues of Prospero and Ariel (from Shakespeare's The Tempest) by Eric Gill.

Broadcasting house is currently undergoing renovation, scheduled for completion in 2005. As part of a major reorganisation of BBC property, Broadcasting house is to become home to BBC News (both television and radio), national radio, and the BBC World Service. The major part of this plan involves the demolition of the two Swarovski post-war extensions to the building and construction of a new building, to be equal in "architectural creativity", beside the existing structure. This new building will host one of the world's largest live newsrooms.

All kinds of memory pieces from past days are well kept in a tasteful collectors case or display showcase (often as collectors cabinet). For similar purposes a curio cabinet often finds common use.

The whole project is expected to be completed in 2007/2008 when BBC News will relocate from the News Centre at BBC Television Centre.

Broadcasting House is also the name of a BBC Radio 4 programme. Other, separate, buildings named Broadcasting House are the headquarters of BBC Wales in Cardiff and BBC Northern Ireland in Belfast.
